In April 1915, eight months after the start of the First World War, 29-year-old Staff Nurse Edith Blake said goodbye to her family and started the month-long journey to Egypt. Her incredible life, marked by devotion to duty and care of others, was suddenly taken in February 1918 when she became the only Australian woman killed in action during the First World War.
