The regions bright in H-alpha emission can be seen blooming in pink along NGC 2835’s spiral arms! 🌸 Astronomers are interested in H-alpha light because it signals the presence of several different types of nebulae that arise during different stages of a star’s life: from newborn stars to supernova remnants. The majestic spiral galaxy NGC 1300’s arms hold blue clusters of young stars, pink clouds of star formation, and dark lanes of dust. To represent this image with sound, scientists assigned louder volume to brighter light. Light farther from the center is pitched higher as a counterclockwise radar scans across the galaxy.
