A well-marked low-pressure area over the southwest and adjoining southeast Bay of Bengal has intensified into a depression and is expected to make landfall between Puducherry and Nellore on October 17,

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted intense showers in Kerala and Andhra Pradesh after heavy rainfall in Tamil Nadu. An orange alert has been issued for the two states, especially the Rayalseema region and coastal Andhra Pradesh where extremely heavy showers are expected.

Chennai and surrounding areas are experiencing heavy rainfall due to a depression in the Bay of Bengal, which is intensifying into a cyclone. The weather department forecasts further heavy rainfall and the cyclone is likely to hit the Tamil Nadu coast tomorrow.

Amidst the disruptions caused by the ongoing Chennai rains and the limited availability of cabs, Chennai Airport, in coordination with MTC Chennai, has arranged special bus services for the convenience of passengers.

According to the IMD's latest forecast, heavy to extremely heavy rains are expected to impact various parts of Tamil Nadu on October 16.
