More than 500,000 students in the Los Angeles Unified School District began a new school year Thursday with concerns and fear amid the ongoing immigration raids.

The district will distribute family preparedness packets that include know-your-rights information, emergency contact updates, and tips on designating a backup caregiver in case a parent is detained.

U.S. Border Patrol agents appeared outside of the Japanese American National Museum in Los Angeles on Thursday as California Gov.
