Oscar, which the National Hurricane Center characterized as "very small," is the 15th named storm of the hurricane season.

DALLAS — Hurricane Oscar formed off the coast of the Bahamas on Saturday near Turks and Caicos and the southeastern Bahamas. Cuba is under a hurricane watch for the provinces of Guantanamo, Holguin, and Las Tunas.

Hurricane Oscar is forecast to make landfall along the northeastern coast of Cuba Sunday afternoon or evening, according to the National Hurricane Center.

Oscar probably won’t be around long. After making a run westward at Cuba, it will begin turning north into Monday and weakening into Tuesday.

Oscar was also the eighth named storm to form since Sept. 24, breaking a record for most named storm formations between Sept. 24 and Oct. 19.

Hurricane Oscar formed Saturday off the coast of the Bahamas, the National Hurricane Center in Miami said. It characterized the storm as “tiny.” The government of the Bahamas has issued a hurricane warning for the Turks and Caicos Islands and the southeastern Bahamas.

Millions of Cubans were enduring electricity blackouts as the government struggled to restore services. Hurricane Oscar, striking the east as a Category 1 storm, added to the disruption.

Hurricane Oscar made landfall on Great Inagua Island in the Bahamas and is forecast to strike in eastern Cuba on Sunday afternoon, the US National Hurricane Center said.
