Forecasters say a polar vortex could push Arctic air into Western and Central Canada as early as next week, with the cold potentially spreading east. Climatologist David Phillips explains what drives the phenomenon and how long Canadians could feel its effects.

Forecasters with the national Climate Prediction Center are predicting warmer-than-usual temperatures across the South over the winter.

Gabrielle, a Category 4 hurricane, was the weakest of the four major hurricanes this year. It passed a safe distance east of Bermuda in late September. Stunningly, the three other 2025 Atlantic major hurricanes peaked at Category 5 intensity (Erin, Humberto, Melissa).

Since it started, Weather Watchers have sent in photos from Devon showing a wide array of conditions from snow, sunshine, storms and even the Northern Lights. David Braine, BBC South West's senior broadcast meteorologist, said the pictures have helped add extra colour to forecasts on TV.
