After lifeguards had to make almost 60 water rescues of swimmers caught in rip currents and battered by heavy surf, Wrightsville Beach announced it was issuing a no swimming advisory through Friday, Aug. 22.

Vinny Doria, owner of Uncle Vinny’s Pizzeria, proposed a change to a current Carolina Beach town ordinance. The current rule allows a small group of beach vendor carts on the strand without motors. Doria’s proposed amendment would allow vendor carts with a motor to be used on the beach strand.
