Erin is the first hurricane to develop over the Atlantic this year, and meteorologists are closely tracking its path and forecast.

Tropical Storm Erin has transformed into a catastrophic Category 5 hurricane and is expected to hit the East Coast next week. The storm formed in the eastern tropical Atlantic Ocean on Monday and was around 430 miles west-northwest of the Cabo Verde Islands with maximum sustained winds at 45 mph, the hurricane center reported.
