The Red Sox rallied late against Tarik Skubal but couldn’t get the go-ahead run home, leaving the door open for the Tigers to pick up their second straight walk-off win to complete the sweep.

Justyn-Henry Malloy hit a pinch-hit single in the ninth to end the game and give the Tigers a 6-5 win over the Red Sox on Wednesday night.

It started with team owner (and Globe owner) John Henry showing up at Kauffman Stadium to have a meeting with Rafael Devers about his refusal to play first. The Sox responded as a team by taking two of three from the resurgent Royals as Devers, still the designated hitter, drove had seven hits and drove in six runs.
