President Donald Trump says he is talking with Egypt and Jordan to move Palestinians out of Gaza and "clean out" the territory.

DEIR AL-BALAH, Gaza Strip — Qatar announced early Monday that an agreement has been reached to release an Israeli civilian hostage and allow Palestinians to return to northern Gaza, easing the first major crisis of the fragile ceasefire between Israel and Hamas.

Palestinian officials say more than 650,000 displaced people were blocked from entering the northern Gaza Strip, according to Reuters. Israel blocked access to the region after it accused Hamas of failing to release 29-year-old Arbel Yehud during an agreed upon hostage-prisoner exchange.

Thousands gathered in the city of Ramallah in the Israeli-occupied West Bank to welcome the 200 Palestinian prisoners released as part of the ceasefire deal between Israel and Hamas. CNN’s Nada Bashir spoke to some of those released.

President Trump said he had spoken to Jordan’s leader and planned to call Egypt’s on Sunday. Most of Gaza’s two million residents have been displaced in 15 months of fighting.
