Experts have raised concerns about Supreme Court intervention in the 2024 election, but recent signals suggest the justices may avoid getting involved.

Some have speculated that the Supreme Court has kept its fall schedule light in case it decides to take up litigation that could affect the outcome of the 2024 presidential election. Yet there is reason to believe that the court will stay out of the election in any major way unless we have a close election à la Florida in 2000 or in the unlikely event that elected or election officials seek to subvert the outcome of the vote.

In March 2024, the U.S. District Court for the Middle District of Pennsylvania dismissed the lawsuit, citing the plaintiffs' lack of standing. U.S. District Judge Jennifer P. Wilson noted that the plaintiffs, including individual state lawmakers, did not demonstrate a direct injury as required for standing.

The U.S. Supreme Court during its last term handed Donald Trump victories in three major cases. But those may not be the last of the former president's legal entanglements that the court is asked to decide.

One mail ballot case was brought by a coalition of civil rights organizations while another was from the Republican National Committee.
