An explosion caused by a gas leak has destroyed a building in Wilmington. Wilmington police responded to a gas leak on Tuesday, Aug. 19, after a vehicle turning on to New Centre Drive from Bob King Drive struck a gas line after driving off the road, Wilmington Police Department Public Information Officer Greg Willett said at a news conference.
Conditions along the North Carolina coast are expected to deteriorate as Hurricane Erin begins to pass by on Wednesday, Aug. 20.
