A 16-year-old died and a Detroit police officer was wounded Thursday night in a shooting on the city’s east side, officials said. The incident was reported around 10:30 p.m. near Chester and Neff, Police Chief Todd Bettison said during a media briefing.

Police say the suspect who was killed was identified as 16 years old. The officer was taken to the hospital with a gunshot wound to the hand.

A manhunt is underway early Friday morning as Detroit police searches for a suspect connected to a shooting on the city’s east side.
