With the Palisades fire raging nearby and firefighters stretched thin, residents of the community have taken it upon themselves to stomp out embers and safeguard homes.

The Palisades Fire forced the evacuation of thousands of residents, including the roughly 8,000 residents of Topanga.

A group of residents of the Topanga Canyon area of Los Angeles County is taking initiative to assist firefighters and residents. The group calls itself the "Heat Hawks."
