The RMC said that a low pressure area over Lakshadweep and adjoining southeast and east-central Arabian Sea, are likely to gain strength as the depression would enhance easterlies and rainfall over the state.

The Chief Minister emphasized the importance of proactive disaster preparedness, directing that the National Disaster Response Force (NDRF) and the Tamil Nadu Disaster Response Force be deployed in vulnerable areas.

As many as eight schools in Tiruchirappalli, Tamil Nadu, received a bomb threat over email on Thursday. Trichy City Police said, “Trichy bomb disposal squads and sniffer dogs were rushed to the school to search for the bomb.”

The Tamil Nadu government declared holidays for schools and colleges in several districts and issued work-from-home advisories due to heavy rainfall predicted by the IMD. Extensive precautionary measures are in place as the northeast monsoon is expected to set in by mid-October.

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has predicted heavy to extremely heavy rainfall across Tamil Nadu, Puducherry and Karaikal regions over the next three days.

Chief minister MK Stalin has also instructed authorities to declare a holiday for schools and colleges in Chennai, Tiruvallur, Kancheepuram and Chengalpattu districts on October 15

The DMK has asked its cadre to be on the ground and assist the public during the northeast monsoon, which is expected to hit the state in the next few days.

With several districts already soaked, including Chennai and Puducherry, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast further heavy rainfall across the state.
