The EU foreign policy chief's remarks come days after Nato's secretary general said Europe needed the US for its defence.

A rare and blunt admission from Brussels is sending shockwaves across the Atlantic. EU foreign policy chief Kaja Kallas said the United States has not supported Ukraine for almost a year, warning that transatlantic ties are no longer what they once were.
