SoftBank said it was a pioneer in making machines that can be friends with people through its Pepper robot.

Pepper was initially developed by SoftBank subsidiary Aldebaran Robotics. The robot operating system, which isn't currently used by Pepper, was developed by its Asratec division.

The robot is called Pepper, and it is being launched at an exorbitant cost by its makers Softbank and Aldabaran. Pepper is being billed as the first "emotionally intelligent" robot.
