On Tuesday, Spotify launched in-app Messages on mobile devices, which will be rolling out to Free and Premium users aged 16 and older. The feature will only be available on mobile devices, and in "select markets" — Spotify did not elaborate on what they are.

Spotify's adding a new direct messaging feature to the mobile app to help users "hype" the content they love. Free and Premium subscribers can send virtually any content they like to existing or new connections, and chat about it privately without leaving the app.

My first thought when I heard Spotify had launched a messaging service was, "Why?" But, after looking into it a bit more, I'm intrigued at the idea of sharing recommendations within the app. So, what is Spotify's new Messages feature?
