Rare deluge floods parts of the Sahara desert for the first time in decades
A rare deluge of rainfall left blue lagoons of water amid the palm trees and sand dunes of the Sahara desert, nourishing some of its driest regions with more water than they had seen in decades. Southeastern Morocco 's desert is among the most arid places in the world and rarely experiences rain in late summer.

Sahara Desert flooded by water as once-in-50-year event takes place
According to figures released by the Moroccan government, rain fell over the course of two days in September and exceeded the annual averages in a number of areas. Typically these see less than 250 millimeters, or 10 inches, of rain in the whole year.
