In response, Virginia sued Ghislaine Maxwell for defamation – and, although the case was settled, it was the discovery in this litigation, that wound up being the backbone of the 2019 criminal case against Epstein – and, later, after he died without facing a trial – Maxwell.

The first victim to take publicly speak out against Jeffrey Epstein, who she says sexually abused and trafficked her to Prince Andrew at 17, died by suicide.

The family of Giuffre, who also accused Prince Andrew in a sex-trafficking scandal, announced that she died by suicide in late April 2025.
