A quickly growing fire in Riverside County torched more than 500 acres of land and prompted evacuation orders on Monday, according to authorities. Dubbed the Juniper Fire, it was initially reported at 11:28 a.m. in unincorporated parts of Perris, near the area of Idaleona and Juniper roads, Cal Fire said .

The wildfire, in Riverside County, east of Los Angeles, burned almost 700 acres in just a few hours on Monday. About 5,000 people were ordered to leave their homes.

Cooler temperatures and humidity are helping firefighters fight the fire, which nearly doubled in size since Monday afternoon.
