Still seeking the first pennant in team history, the Mariners are headed to the ALCS for the first time since 2001.
It took 15 innings, but for the first time in 25 years, the Seattle Mariners are headed to the American League Championship Series after a 3-2 Game 5 win over the Detroit Tigers in Friday's AL Division Series.
And the electric factory that was T-Mobile Park on Friday might've made the difference. At the least, it certainly made a difference early in the game when the Seattle Mariners took a 1-0 lead in a game they eventually won, 3-2, in 15 innings, to cap off a spectacular American League Division Series.
After a 15-inning marathon victory in Game 5 of the ALDS, the Mariners decided to go sleepless in Seattle instead of being tired in Toronto.
Miller was the only healthy starter who did not pitch in Seattle’s thrilling, 3-2 win in Game 5 of the AL Division Series. But he would be on short rest for Game 1 of the ALCS. Miller started Game 4 of the ALDS on Wednesday in Detroit, throwing 55 pitches over 4 1/3 innings in an eventual loss that forced the winner-take-all Game 5.

The Seattle Mariners have a deep lineup with a star-laden middle-of-the-order who can beat you with singles, stolen bases and/or home runs. It would be folly to look at their stats and assume they are merely slightly above-average. They are much better than that. They are a very formidable bunch.
