The Penguins suffered a disastrous loss against the Rangers on opening night, a 6-0 setback that drew uncharacteristic boos throughout.

The Penguins were routed by the New York Rangers, 6-0, in their home opener. Chris Kreider scored twice for New York - one of those tallies being a shorthanded breakaway goal in the second period - the the Rangers peppered goaltender Tristan Jarry with 47 shots.

For several new Penguins, the energy and opportunities were present, but New York got the first break of the season when fourth-line center Sam Carrick (1) perfectly deflected defenseman Jacob Trouba’s wrist shot over Penguins goalie Tristan Jarry’s extended pad at 2:24 of the first period.
