“I stand by my assertion that at the time of my departure, the Kennedy Center was fiscally sound, on track to balance its budget for the year, and positioned to grow its endowment significantly while serving as a beacon for free artistic expression and a place where everyone could belong,” Rutter said in a statement.

Former Kennedy Center President Deborah Rutter said that there had been a $10 million fund set up when she was fired by the Trump administration in February.

The center’s new president said prosecutors should look at its “criminal” debt and deferred maintenance, as the center announced dance and theater offerings that include some with nonunion casts.
