Miguel Uribe Turbay, a Colombian senator and presidential hopeful who was hospitalized after being shot at a campaign event more than two months ago, has died, his wife announced on Monday.

Political violence has become rarer in recent years, with the government and the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia reaching a peace deal in 2016.

Presidential hopeful Miguel Uribe was shot in Bogota at June 7 rally and underwent multiple surgeries before his death.
