At least 22 people were killed and 117 injured in Israeli strikes this evening in Beirut, the Lebanese health ministry said. A senior Hezbollah official, Wafiq Safa, survived the attack, according to a source in the militant group.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military. Witnesses said the strike targeted a makeshift post of the Hamas-run police inside the shelter.

Israel’s military said Thursday it killed a Hezbollah commander in southern Lebanon, while also announcing a new round of evacuation orders in the Bekaa Valley. The Israel Defense Forces identified the commander killed as Hussein Awada and said he was responsible for firing projectiles across the border into Israel.
